Principal Researcher | Biodiversity, International Institute for Environment and Development

A Principal Researcher at IIED, Phil Franks is an expert on the social dimension of natural resource management and conservation and related development efforts. He has 25+ years’ experience in Africa, Asia and Latin America in project design and implementation and facilitating action research and learning, working for conservation and development NGOs and research organisations. Over the last 7 years he has led collaborative initiatives developing a framework for understanding and assessing equity in conservation - endorsed by CBD at the last COP - and developing low cost methods for assessing governance and equity of protected areas.
