Ocean-Climate Solutions: Moving from Science to Action

¿Por qué asistir a esta sesión?
From rising sea-levels to plummeting levels of marine biodiversity, explore the causes and consequences of Ocean health decline now and through time. Climate change, pollution and habitat loss are threatening livelihoods, human well-being and our natural environment. How can leaders take action to safeguard people and planet?
HideDescripción
In the last decade, scientific advances have enhanced our knowledge and understanding of coastal and marine ecosystems and how these interact with the climate system. These confirmed that climate change significantly alters the ocean, its ecosystems and its capacity to act as climate regulator. Since COP21 and the adoption of the Paris Agreement, the ocean has become a key element of climate negotiations, and it is widely recognised that a healthy ocean can provide solutions to future challenges. With time running out on international agreements, how can non-state actors and government come together to deliver on targets for climate, oceans and conservation? The session aims at synthesizing recent scientific progress on ocean and climate interplays; evaluating the latest ocean, climate and biodiversity trends within the context of increased concerted ocean actions; and reflecting on ways to move “from science to action”.
